Paper Abstract
This tutorial provides a fundamental introduction to confocal microscopy and its applications. The course will review the historical developments of confocal microscopy and describe all of the components of confocal microscopes, including light sources, scanning systems, microscope objectives, apertures, detection systems, and mechanical xyz stages. A comparison between ideal and real optical systems will be developed, with "focus" on optical aberrations and digital deconvolutions.
