PicoQuant GmbH: MultiHarp 160, a scalable multichannel event timer
Most of PicoQuant's diode lasers can be operated in both picosecond pulsed and Continuous Wave (CW) modes. When used in conjunction with the Sepia PDL 828 laser driver, our laser heads can generate pulses at various rates (from single shot to 80 MHz), burst patterns, CW emission and – when multiple sources are used together – even multicolor excitation patterns combining pulsed, burst and CW emission. The CW emission usually offers more average optical power with less peak power, which reduces risk of photobleaching in many microscopy applications. However, up to now, the CW mode of PicoQuant's laser heads had a slow dynamic with rise/fall times above 100 µs. In this product demonstration, we will present our new lineup of fast switching laser heads with rise/fall time of typically 100 ns and how they could be beneficial for single molecule applications an in particular for smFRET by opening new perspectives in terms of excitation patterns including not only Alternative Laser Excitation (ALEX) and Pulse Interleaved Excitation (PIE) but also a large variety of combined patterns.
