Schäfter + Kirchhoff GmbH: Fiber Coupling: Single-Mode Fiber-Coupling using the Fiber Coupler 60SMS
Long-term stable fiber-coupling requires sub-micron precision and pointing stability. This is especially true when a polarization-maintaining single-mode fiber is to be permanently attached to a free beam laser. Tests of the popular single-mode coupler series 60SMS have shown that it is possible to achieve outstanding long-term stability over a wide temperature range while having a sensitive adjustment procedure. We will give a short overview about the products and technologies at Schäfter+Kirchhoff and then we will present the technical features of the laser beam coupler series 60SMS and show and explain all the degrees of freedom used in the coupler to achieve high coupling efficiencies. We will then show stability measurements that prove the long-term stability. Following an explanation on the different lens types that can be used in the coupler we will explain how accurate measurements of the effective fiber numerical aperture provide the basis for choosing the most appropriate coupling and collimating optics. Afterwards we will introduce the Product Configurator for fiber couplers and collimators on that makes the process of choosing the most appropriate coupler for an application quick and easy. Lasers for Machine Vision
The Machine Vision Lasers by Schäfter + Kirchhoff are laser diode based light sources designed for use in metrology and machine vision applications. They are available in a variety of line geometries (with fan angle or semi-telecentric) with different intensity profiles (Gaussian or uniform intensity distribution along the laser line) and with wavelengths 405 nm - 980 nm. Polarization Analyzer SK010PA
The polarization analyzers SK010PA are universal measurement and test systems for coupling laser beam sources into polarization-maintaining fiber cables. They were developed from practical experience with a focus on high usability. The polarization analyzer is a plug&play device and connects directly to the USB port of a Windows device. The device is compact and can be easy integration within ­existing systems. Alignments and measurements are performed rapidly. A real-time measurement of the Stokes parameters is performed and shown in an interactive display that depicts the state of polarization on a Poincaré sphere. More information can be found on:

Low coherence laser sources series 51nano
The fiber-coupled Laser Diode Beam Sources of type 51nano have reduced power noise (< 0.1% RMS (< 1 MHz)), reduced coherence length and a low speckle contrast. The undesirable features of power noise and mode hopping are eliminated in the 51nano series by exciting numerous longitudinal modes of emission while simultaneously lowering signal noise significantly to < 0.1 % RMS. The induced broadening of the spectrum, in a controlled and stable way, has the advantage of considerably reducing the coherence length of the laser beam. More information can be found on:

Fiber Port Cluster
Fiber Port Clusters are compact, rugged and highly efficient opto-mechanical units that combine and split the combined radiation into multiple output fiber cables with high efficiency and variable splitting ratio. A fundamental component of the Fiber Port Cluster is the Laser Beam Coupler series 60SMS, which is the input into the opto-mechanical unit collimating the input radiation and, finally, coupling the radiation back into the polarization-maintaining fiber cables. The stability of the total Fiber Port Cluster is determined by the stability of the laser beam coupler. More information is found on:

Robot-guided Line Scan Camera
The robot-guided line scan camera with integrated corrosion inspection can be used to evaluate corrosion on car rims or wheel segments or other curved surfaces. Just as with the Corrosion Inspector it provides automatic and interactive measurement of corrosion phenomena, like area, width, filament length, red rust, delamination, multi-impact. Thanks to a 6-axis robot arm, there are almost no limits to the scanning of surfaces. Whether strongly curved, slightly twisted or a flat surface - all this is no handicap for the robot arm. This great freedom is supported by intuitive operation for creating the path for the scanning process. Waypoints can be set either by hand or in an easy-to-use software interface. When using the software interface, the robot arm can be controlled with high precision in both the position and angle of the sensor head. The operator also benefits from the high safety of the robot arm thanks to force-torque sensors that comply with the standards DIN EN ISO 10218-1 as well as the requirements of DIN ISO/TS 15066. If too much force is applied, the robot arm switches off automatically. The operator must manually confirm the safety status in order for the robot to resume its work. This ensures safe operation in cooperation with humans. More information can be found on:
