Optical Engineeering Scope

Optical Engineering publishes papers reporting on research and development in optical science and engineering and the practical applications of known optical science, engineering, and technology.

Contributed papers cover a broad range of subject classifications encompassing the general fields of:

  • Optical design and fabrication
  • Lasers
  • Astronomy
  • Remote sensing
  • Industrial inspection and processing
  • Optical physics and chemistry
  • X-ray optics
  • Integrated optoelectronics
  • Fiber optics
  • Imaging and image processing
  • Holography
  • Signal processing
  • High-speed photography
  • Medical optics
  • Electro-optical systems

In addition to contributed research papers, OE occasionally publishes special sections in key areas of technology. Special sections are assembled by guest editors. See the Editorial Schedule for a list of forthcoming special section topics and dates.

OE Is an e-First Publication
SPIE Journals are published online in an article-at-a-time (or e-First) publication mode.
  • Authors benefit from an accelerated publication process, with articles being published online as they are approved.
  • Researchers gain access to research much earlier compared to print publication.

Additionally, OE uses six-digit citation identifiers (CIDs) instead of page numbers. For more information, see the Citation Format page.

Impact factor (2008): 0.722
