Fiber lasers are appealing for a wide range of applications because they are more compact, rugged, efficient and easy to integrate than many conventional laser sources. Andy Brown of Aculight Corporation (Bothell, WA) discusses some of the advantages of fiber lasers, as well as new ways of packaging them, current and future applications, and their reliability requirements. He was interviewed for SPIE Newsroom at the SPIE Defense and Security Symposium in Orlando, Florida.
