Eligibility and Application Requirements

High School, Pre-University, Secondary School Students

• Will receive a one-year complimentary Student Membership
• Submit a Pre-College Membership Application Form with your scholarship application form
• Must be planning to enroll in an optics, photonics, imaging, optoelectronics program or related discipline (e.g., physics or electrical engineering) at an accredited school for the school year beginning in the Fall 2011 (Sept 2011-July 2012)

Undergraduate, Post-Secondary, and Graduate Students

• Must be an SPIE Student Member
• Must be enrolled in an optics, photonics, imaging, optoelectronics program or related discipline (e.g., physics or electrical engineering) at an accredited school for the school year beginning in the Fall 2011 (Sept 2011-July 2012)

All Students (Full- and Part-time)

• Submit one completed scholarship application form (Word or PDF files only!).
• Submit a 450-word essay
• Two letters of recommendation. Must be sent by recommender by email (preferred method) to scholarships@spie.org,  by mail, or by fax.
• Must include an Annual Scholarship Report with application materials if reapplying. Scholarship application must show new activities from which the previous award was received
• No more than 10 pages of application materials will be accepted. Extra materials exceeding the 10-page limit will not be considered
• All application materials must be received by 15 January.
• Applications will not be submitted for consideration until all materials arrive.
• Incomplete materials will not be submitted for consideration.

Note: Electronic submissions (Word or PDF format only) are preferred. Contact scholarships@spie.org with questions. All materials must be received by January 15, 2011. This is not a postmark deadline.
