PUEBLA, Mexico, and BELLINGHAM, Washington, USA -- Duncan Moore (Univ. of Rochester) was elected to a three-year term as President of the Bureau of the International Commission for Optics (ICO) yesterday during the ICO-22 Congress in Puebla, Mexico.
With yesterday's elections, Maria Calvo (Univ. Complutense de Madrid) becomes Past President.
Newly elected Vice Presidents 2011-2014 terms are Humberto Michinel (Univ. de Vigo) and Frank Höller (Carl Zeiss AG).
María Yzuel (Univ. Autònoma de Barcelona) is joining the Bureau as Vice President appointed by SPIE, succeeding Philip Stahl (NASA Marshall Space Flight Center).

Held every three years, the ICO congress attracts scientists, engineers, and educators in optics and photonics around the world. Participants at the Puebla congress have come from 57 different countries.
Technical presentations this week have covered research in 3D and holographic modeling and imaging, laser-based cancer detection and treatment, nondestructive testing, theoretical optics, nonlinear optics, vision sciences, climate studies, and related topics.
Fernando Mendoza Santoyo, Director General of the Centro de Investigaciones en Óptica, is General Conference Chair of ICO-22.
