Hanli Liu receives NIH grant for cancer screening research

    06 October 2010

SPIE Member Hanli Liu, a University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) bioengineering professor, has landed a three-year, $958,660 grant from the National Institutes of Health to investigate a minimally invasive way to screen for and diagnose prostate cancer by using a multi-channel optical imaging system.

Liu is developing an instrument called the Transrectal Optical Imaging Probe, pursuing an overall goal to develop a novel mathematical method in combination with a transrectal optical imaging system, reports a UTA news release.

She has published nearly 60 conference proceedings papers and 9 journal articles with SPIE, most recently an article on "Comprehensive investigation of three-dimensional diffuse optical tomography with depth compensation algorithm" in the Journal of Biomedical Optics. She is an author on several papers scheduled for the BiOS Symposium at SPIE Photonics West next January.
