Newport rings opening bell at NASDAQ

Members of the Newport Corporation appeared at the opening ceremony of the NASDAQ stock exchange in New York City on Monday, 16 August, to ring the opening bell. Newport (NEWP)was the featured company both at the ceremony and on the giant display outside the exchange in Times Square.

Robert Phillippy, President and CEO of Newport (pictured above, second from right), highlighted the diversity of Newport's products and the applications of photonics in his opening remarks. "We're proud that our technology makes the world smarter, healthier, and more convenient," he said.

Philippy was introduced by Demetrios Skalkotos, NASDAQ Senior Vice President of Global Corporate Services. Skalkotos commended Newport for the company's results last quarter, with total orders up 56 percent and revenue up 31 percent, beating market expectations.
