CleanTech VC invests in VIA Optronics

SPIE Newsroom
1 July 2010

WHEB Ventures (WHEB), one of Europe's leading clean-technology private-equity firms, announced it has invested €4.4 million in VIA Optronics GmbH, becoming a co-investor with BayBG which was an existing shareholder.

VIA Optronics, based in Germany, supplies energy-efficient LCD displays for handheld devices, laptops, televisions, and industrial devices. VIA Optronics' product offering addresses several challenges faced by manufacturers of devices with LCD displays by bonding components with proprietary optical adhesives, which inhibit condensation or particles between the LCD and lens cover or touch screen.

These displays benefit portable devices, especially, with improved readability in any light conditions and an extended battery life.

Blue-chip customers are supported from the company's manufacturing facilities in Germany, China, and the United States.
