    Standard - This is Standard Font, looks like Verdana, 11 pixels.

    Body 3 - This is Body 3. This is Verdana, 11 px and is used as the main body text. I believe that Standard and Body 3 are the same.


    Body 1 - This is what BODY 1. This is Georgia, 11 pixels, medium gray. It was originally for the home and main landing page for introductory text (top paragraphs). NO LONGER NEEDED.


    Body 2 - This is Body 2. This is Verdana 10 pixels, and used throughout the side, most often imn the right column.

    Body 5 - This is Body 5.This is Verdana, 10 pixels, and is used as sublevel detail text. Body 2 and Body 5 seem to be the same.

    Body 6 - This is body 6. This is Verdana, 10 pixels and is used primarily for using as lower-level lists. I think Body 2, Body 5 and Body 6 are the same.



     Q: How do I sign up?
    A:
    You may volunteer by sending an email of interest to spieteam@spie.org. There are a limited number of spots open for each session, so please inquire immediately.  The sessions are by invitation only.

    After sending your email of interest, you will receive an email with a short preliminary screening questionnaire. Complete the questionnaire and return. You may then be contacted by phone or email by our recruiter to ask further screening questions. If you match the criteria, you will be given a focus group time based on your indicated preference, again by email. Additional focus group meeting details will also be sent in the email, including location.

    Alternatively, if all focus group spots are taken or you do not match the criteria, you would receive a regrets email.

    Q: What is a focus group?
    A:
    A focus group is a form of qualitataive research in which a group of people are asked about their attitude towards a product, service, concept, advertisement, idea, or packaging. Questions are asked in an interactive group setting where participants are free to talk with other group members. This particular focus group will focus on SPIE related communications, non-technical print materials, products, and services.

    Q: How do I know if I'm eligible to participate in the focus group?
    A: After sending your email of interest, you will receive an email with a short prelilminary screening questionnaire. Complete the questionaire and return. You may then be contacted by phone or email by our recruiter to ask you further screening questions. If you match the criteria you will be given a focus group time based on your indicated preference. Additional group meeting details regarding time and place will be sent in an email.     Q: Where will the focus groups take place?
    A: The study will coincide with SPIE Photonics West 2010 in San Fransisco, California, USA. You are responsible for transportation to and from the usability study. The study is located within walking distance of the Moscone Convention Center. If selected, you will be sent a confirmation via email with time and location of the study.

    Q: When will the focus groups take place?
    A:
    The study takes place two different times on 24 January 2010. These times are 8:30 am to 10:00 am, and 10:30 am to 12:00 noon. If selected, you will be emailed the details of your group time and location. We will try our best to match you up to your indicated preferred time.

    Q: Will I be paid for participating?
    A: Yes! You will be paid in cash at the conclusion of the study. If you are unable to accept the cash honorarium, SPIE can make a donation to an organization of your choice instead. The honorarium is $150.

    Q: How long does the session last?
    A: Usually, 90 minutes in length. We require that you are able to attend for at least the 90-minute time slot indicated in the profile questions in the recruitment email.

    Q: So, all I have to do is show up at the location, participate, and I'll be paid?
    A:
    Yes. After you are screened and invited, there is no preparation required on your part.

    Q: Can I invite my friends to participate in the research?
    A:
    Yes. Please feel free to forward the announcement to your friends or co-workers who are attending SPIE Photonics West 2010. We will contact them to see if they match our study criteria, they will be notified and invited to participate. However, please refrain from bringing friends with you to your focus group as we won't be able to accommodate them without pre-screening.

    Q: What else should I know?
    A:
    We will be videotaping the session. The data used from your session is used solely for evaluating the study and used for internal purposes only. By agreeing to participate in the study, you are giving your consent for us to videotape the session.
