Charles Townes, Univ. of California, Berkeley, professor emeritus of physics and 1964 Nobel Laureate in physics, is being honored for his part in stimulating developing of the laser with an exhibit and public lecture on the Berkeley campus starting this weekend. Townes is a Fellow of SPIE.
The event will be in the Lawrence Hall of Science, with the exhibit running 23-25 January, and lectures by Townes, UC Berkeley professor Roger Falcone, and Stanford Univ. professor Robert Byer on 25 January.
The exhibit is a part of the LaserFest celebration, in collaboration with UC Berkeley and the National Ignition Facility. LaserFest Founding Partners and Sponsors are SPIE, IEEE Photonics Society, American Physical Society, and Optical Society of America.
