    Take a free tour of the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory while you are at SPIE Photonics West

    A tour of the National Ignition Facility (NIF), at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), will be part of the Photonics West program on the afternoon of Thursday 27 January, 2011.

    Buses will depart the South Lobby of The Moscone Center at 1:00 pm for LLNL and will return to The Moscone Center between 6:30 and 7:00 pm. Please board the bus 15 minutes prior to departure. Buses will take conference attendees to the LLNL badge office and then to NIF for a self-guided walking tour. Immediately following the NIF tour, buses will transport participants back to The Moscone Center in San Francisco.

    Important: All attendees of the NIF tour must comply with registration requirements and tour requirements. Please read all requirements before registering. Tour registration is being handled through Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

    Registration Requirements

    • The NIF tour is limited to conference attendees (U.S. citizens and non-citizens) and their guests (companions and spouses).
    • At this time attendees under the age of 18 are not permitted.
    • Participation on the tour will be subject to badging approval as part of the registration process.
    • Conference attendees wishing to attend the NIF tour MUST sign-up by the dates below. Due to badging requirements these dates must be strictly enforced.

      19 November 2010: US Permanent Residents and for Foreign Nationals

      17 December 2010: US Citizens without DOE Standard Badges

    Tour Requirements

    • Tour attendees must travel to the NIF by the tour bus departing from The Moscone Center—individual transportation is not permitted.
    • Tour attendees must bring the proper identification to be admitted on the tour.
    • All tour attendees must conform to NIF clothing requirements, implemented to protect individuals and personnel around them. Requirements include:

      Pants: Long pants that cover the ankle and shirts with sleeves. Shorts, capris or cropped pants, skirts and dresses are not acceptable.

      Shirts: All shirts must have sleeves. Short sleeve shirts are acceptable. Sleeveless shirts and tank tops are not acceptable.

      Shoes: Sturdy shoes that enclose the entire foot must be worn. Tennis shoes and loafers are acceptable. Footwear with open toes, open backs, moccasins, sandals or high heels are not acceptable.
