Call for Papers: The fourth Mediterranean conference on nanophotonics (MediNano-4) was held in Rome, Italy, on 24-25 October 2011. A variety of participants from various countries (Mediterranean as well as non-Mediterranean) presented their research activities at the meeting. As in the previous MediNano meetings, the purpose was of the conference was to generate closer collaboration in the field of nanophotonics between scientists, research facilities, and institutes and to establish a tradition of future conferences in this field.

We invite all participants and presenters from the MediNano-4 conference, as well as any other interested authors, to submit their original manuscripts in research areas including but not limited to the following:

• Metamaterials
• Photonic crystal fibers
• Sensing and imaging
• Computational nanophotonics
• Nonlinear nano-optics
• Nano- and micromanipulations
• Nano/microphotonic devices
• Nano- and microfabrication procedures

All manuscripts must submitted be in the correct format, as provided on the journal's website: http://spie.org/jnp.

Manuscripts due 1 March, 2012

Call for Papers: Nanotechnology, which can be defined as the understanding and control of matter at dimensions between approximately 1 and 100 nm, has attracted enormous research and public interest for just about two decades. Nanotechnology is not a single process; neither does it involve a specific type of material. Instead, the term covers all aspects of the production of materials, devices, and systems by manipulating matter at the nanoscale. Encompassing nanoscale science, engineering, and technology, nanotechnology involves imaging, measuring, modeling, and manipulating matter at this length scale. Nanostructured thin films display unique phenomena, thus enabling the improvement of traditional applications or the development of novel applications. The fabrication, characterization, modeling, and manipulation of nanostructured thin films are essential to further scientific progress. This special section of the Journal of Nanophotonics (JNP) will be focused on the research presented at the Nanostructured Thin Films IV conference at SPIE Optics+Photonics 2011. In this regard, all authors from this conference are strongly encouraged to submit papers derived from their conference presentations. Contributions from authors not attending the Nanostructured Thin Films IV conference are also welcome. Topics of interest cover any relevant aspects of nanostructured thin films, from modeling, fabrication, and characterization to practical applications. Manuscripts should be submitted to JNP following the journal guidelines at http://spie.org/x3655.xml. A cover letter indicating that the submission is intended for this special section should be included. All papers will go through the standard journal peer-review process.
