BELLINGHAM, Wash., USA -- SPIE today announced the launch of a new journal in Fall 2009, on Photonics for Energy and the Environment. The new peer-reviewed online publication will provide a focal point for photonics and optics research in and development of sustainable energy sources, energy-efficient technologies, and applications for the environment.
Topics under the journal's purview include solar and other alternative energy sources such as wind and water; energy efficient materials and devices, such as photovoltaics, concentrators, displays, and solid-state lighting; and technologies for environmental monitoring and sustainability.
"Optics and photonics are important technologies in the development of renewable energy sources such as solar, sustainable lighting, and environmental sensing and monitoring," said SPIE President María Yzuel. "SPIE is happy to provide a resource for encouraging research in these areas and sharing the results with the international community to help advance solutions to the world's needs for energy efficiency, clean technology, and better understanding of our environment."
"SPIE organizes numerous technical conferences in these topics throughout the world each year,” said SPIE Publications Director Eric Pepper. “We are pleased to be able to further advance science and technology in these critically important areas through this new peer-reviewed publishing option for authors and resource for researchers.”
The new journal will be published electronically in the SPIE Digital Library, the world’s largest collection of optics and photonics literature. Articles in the SPIE Digital Library incorporate features such as extensive CrossRef-linked bibliographies, multimedia, bookmarking tools, and RSS feeds. The SPIE Digital Library also includes articles available by subscription or pay-per-view from SPIE’s other six journals and the Proceedings of SPIE.
An editor-in-chief and editorial board are being confirmed, and details will be announced this spring.
