SPIE celebrates International Year of Astronomy

International Year of Astronomy 2009SPIE is proud to join in the worldwide celebration of the International Year of Astronomy (IYA), timed to coincide with the 400th anniversary of Galileo's telescope.

Many institutions around the world are celebrating the IYA, including special public events planned at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (Greenbelt, Maryland) in early April, entitled 100 Hours of Astronomy.

SPIE will observe the important anniversary with special online features and an observance at the annual SPIE Optics + Photonics symposium in August, which will include program tracks on Astronomical Optics and Instrumentation, as well as X-Ray, Gamma-Ray, and Particle Technologies. Special plenary talks on astronomy-related subjects are also planned.
