Italy solar industry to double PV capacity in 2009

Italy plans to nearly double total installed photovoltaic capacity in 2009 by adding at least 250 megawatt of new installations, thanks to government incentives for solar energy and lower material prices, according to GIFI, the Italian PV sector association.

Italy, seen by many as a new frontier for developing solar energy due to abundant sunshine and incentives launched in 2007, had 280 MW of photovoltaic installations at the end of 2008 and expects to install at least 250 MW more in 2009.
