Photonics21 Student Innovation Award applications open

The Photonics21 Student Innovation Award has been launched by the Working Group 7 - Photonics Research Education and Training of the Photonics21 Technology Platform for students in the field of photonics. The award was created to recognize individual efforts in pure or applied optics and photonics R&D.

The first prize will be awarded on 15 June 2009 at Laser 2009 and the World of Photonics Congress. Any person under 35 and active in the field of optics and photonics may apply for the Photonics21 Student Innovation Award. Submissions will be judged on innovation and potential impact in the photonics industry. The award includes a cash prize of €5000.

The deadline for submission is 31 March 2009.

The Photonics21 Student Innovation Award committee is chaired by Chris Dainty, University of Galway (Ireland), and consists of members from the European photonics industry and academia.

Photonics21 is a voluntary association of industrial enterprises and other stakeholders in the field of photonics in Europe. More information is available at www.photonics21.org.
