High-power disk lasers: a video interview with Rüdiger Brockmann

With a 10 kW output, the disk laser offers numerous advantages due to its unique geometry. Rüdiger Brockmann explains how it works and what it can do.
13 February 2008, SPIE Newsroom. DOI: 10.1117/2.3200802.0001

Rüdiger Brockmann, product management engineer for TRUMPF Laser GmBH in Schrambrg, Germany, discusses TRUMPF's 10-kW disk laser.  The disk laser's geometry offers advantages for higher output and easier cooling,  and it is effective for welding a wide variety of materials.

Brockmann presented work from TRUMPF at SPIE Photonics West, held in San Jose, CA in January 2008. He was interviewed for SPIE Newsroom at the symposium.
