Biography
Dr. Breckinridge's current position is Chief Technologist, Navigator Program. Prior assignments included a three-year appointment at the National Science Foundation (NSF) where he was the Program Director for Advanced Technology and Instruments. For the 15 years prior to his NSF service Dr. Breckinridge was a faculty member in Applied Physics Department at CALTECH, and Section Manager of the 95-member Optical Science and Application Section at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Awards include:
- Fellow of the Optical Society of America, American Association for the Advancement of Science, the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE), and the Royal Astronomical Society.
- George W. Goddard Award and prize
- Elected and served as the 1994 president of the SPIE
He is a 1961 BSc graduate in Physics from Case Institute of Technology and a 1976 PhD graduate from the College of Optical Sciences of the University of Arizona. During his 30-year career Dr. Breckinridge has accumulated approximately 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications, in astronomy, optical physics, optical information theory, atmospheric optics, earth remote sensing instrumentation, optical engineering, and management of scientific and technical programs and projects.
