SPIE Fellow Sethuraman "Panch" Panchanathan, Executive Vice President and Chief Research and Innovation Officer of Knowledge Enterprise Development at Arizona State University, has been appointed by the National Academy of Inventors to its 2016-2017 Board of Directors.

"Both NAI and ASU believe in raising the visibility of academic research and innovation, and translating that intellectual property into meaningful benefits for the larger society," Panchanathan said. "This appointment helps me join forces with my peers from other institutions to further advance that goal."

As well as being a Fellow of SPIE, NAI, and the IEEE, Panchanathan is editor-in-chief of IEEE Multimedia, a member of the U.S. National Science board, and serves on other innovation, entrepreneurship, and business development boards.

He has served on organizing committees for SPIE conferences on digital image processing and mobile devices and multimedia at SPIE Optics + Photonics and other symposia, and has published nearly 100 journal and proceedings articles with the society.

The NAI is a non-profit member organization comprising U.S. and international universities, and governmental and non-profit research institutes.
