Kevin Knopp: High-pressure mass spectrometer detects chemical threats

A less complex pumping system permits size reductions, resulting in a hand-held instrument that can identify threats in the field.

Kevin Knopp is a co-founder and CEO of 908 Devices Inc. (Boston, MA). Knopp co-founded Ahura Scientific in 2002, and was Senior Vice President overseeing Operations, R&D and Safety and Security Sales through Ahura's acquisition by Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2010, where he continued as Vice-President and Site Leader of the Portable Optical Analysis division. He earned a BSEE from Boston University, MSEE and PhD degrees in Optics from the University of Colorado. Kevin is an inventor on more than 20 US patents, an author on more than a dozen refereed publications, and his products have received R&D 100, Business Week IDEA, GSN, CPhI Gold, Cygnus, and Frost & Sullivan awards.

908 Devices offers products from rugged, handheld chemical-detection tools to compact, tiny-footprint analyzers for researchers, serving a range of industries including safety and security, energy, petrochemical, and life sciences. The company is headquartered in the heart of Boston where they research, design and manufacture innovative products based on High-Pressure Mass SpectrometryTM.
