Courses at SPIE Events

SPIE courses are half-day to two-day sessions of concentrated instruction, scheduled at SPIE events including Photonics West, Optics & Photonics, DSS, Medical Imaging, Advanced Lithography, and Optifab.

Take advantage of the opportunity to supplement the conference presentations and exhibition with the training you need to advance your career. Courses provide the unique ability to learn directly from seasoned professionals with deep experience in applied use of the technologies featured at our events.

Subjects range from core fundamentals in optical & optomechanical design and engineering to intermediate and advanced topics across a wide spectrum of optics and photonics technology.

Benefits of live courses at SPIE events:

  • Build on the research and theory from the technical conferences with application-focused training
  • Learn from instructors with deep knowledge and real-world experience in their respective fields
  • Network with instructors and other professionals working in your field
  • Take home a print copy of the presentation slides for future reference; some courses also provide supplementary textbooks

A "Green Lab" program supported by SPIE at the Pennsylvania State Univ. Electro-Optics Center gives high-school students lab experience in analyzing power consumption incandescent, compact fluorescent, and LED lighting sources.

"The lab inspires students to think about the environment and the economy," said Jim Einsporn of the Penn State project. "Students discover first-hand the amount of energy used in each source, and the long-term costs of each."
