Your voice makes a difference. Getting involved can be as simple as sending a letter or visiting your Representatives or you might want to consider a one year Fellowship in a Congressional office or with the Department of State. Make sure that your representatives in the U.S. House and Senate know how their decisions on key issues will impact you.

Send a Letter

Your Representatives want to hear from the science and technology community. Let them know how proposed legislation and funding will impact you, your organization or your state. Personalize our sample letter supporting Innovation or write your own.
Visit your Representatives
Your voice makes a difference. SPIE encourages you to visit your representatives in their home and national offices. U.S. Congressional Visits Day (CVD) is an annual event that brings scientists, engineers, researchers, educators, and technology executives to Washington DC to raise visibility and support for science, engineering, and technology. As a member of the planning coalition, SPIE invites your participation. Please contact us at policy@spie.org if you are interested in participating.
On May 1-2 2007, members of SPIE traveled to Washington, D.C., to request funding support for innovation legislation, science and math education, and federal agencies for fiscal year 2008. "In the ever-more-competitive global economy, America's success for the next 100+ years depends upon a continuous stream of innovation," said 2007 CVDparticipant Randall Foster of Vumii Inc. "This will only occur if we create a productive and efficient innovative environment based on robust investment in science education, fundamental research, and commercialization assistance by the US government."
