Profile Summary

Bill Owens recently retired as an Engineering Fellow at Raytheon in Tucson, AZ. Prior to joining Raytheon in 2001, he was head of the Sensors and Signature Phenomenology Branch in the Electro-Optics Lab of GTRI at Georgia Institute of Technology, where he helped develop extension courses in infrared technology. He served for many years on a steering committee for MSS, the Military Sensing Symposia and co-authored the chapter on missile warning receivers for the EO&IR Systems Handbook. Bill received his B.A. from Wesleyan University in Connecticut and his Ph.D. in physics from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, followed by postdoctoral work at Tulane University in New Orleans. Academic experience includes seven years as Associate Professor of Physics at a major university in Brazil, and several years as Adjunct Professor in EE at Georgia Tech. Bill was born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia and is a graduate of the Philadelphia public school system (Bartram HS).
Bill is currently consulting with some small companies on a part time basis.
