I am an applied physicist and optical engineer with over two decades experience in the design, fabrication and testing of optical components, photonic devices and systems. I've worked at Universities, large defense companies, medium size R&D companies and early stage start-ups. I love getting to the heart of a problem by understanding the fundamental physics and pushing technology to the limits through careful, often statistical-based optimization, and creative problem solving.
I currently work at a small and dynamic company providing optical components and assemblies to about one hundred OEM customers. We specialize in improving quality and reducing cost by optimizing key component parameters essential to our customer's applications. I currently lead the development of new products and product lines as well as test and measurement solutions required to assure the quality of our products. I also lead teams of technicians, engineers and young physicists in developing new test and measurement systems, performing root cause investigations, leading corrective and preventative actions, and improving lab efficiency and throughput.
Specialties: optical metrology and component characterization including: spectrophotometry, interferometry, lens parameter measurement, surface roughness and scatter (BSDF); optical component design and optimization, optical product specification and requirements flow-down; thin-film optical coatings; semiconductor photonic device fabrication including molecular beam epitaxy, photolithography, etching and thin-film deposition; military and civilian optical sensors including space-based systems.
