Career has focused on space-based optical systems for defense and astronomy with added involvement in ground-based optical laboratory test equipment and several commercial products.
Have specialized in optical components and optical assemblies for NASA and DoD applications throughout my career. Have experience with lightweighted beryllium, glass, glass-ceramic, and other materials. Have also led a design team on the complete opto-mechanical design for a CCD camera and beryllium telescope used in a defense application. Managed strategic, tactical, civil space and other types of programs as a senior program manger. Have experience with design for ultra-high, long-term stability of mirrors and space-based structures and contamination controls associated with space optics.
Managed programs for factory optical test equipment for a stellar sensor in an astro-inertial guidance system and for laboratory test equipment used to test the Wide-Field Planetary Camera 2 which corrected the aberrations of the Hubble Space Telescope
Managed commercial programs that developed a high precision projection lens used in development of the Digital Light Processor chip (DLP) and an integrated scintillator and Schmitt Cassegrain Telescope with high resolution CCD for digital mammography as well as optics supporting improved printer resolution and high-density hard drive manufacture.
