Summary
Dr Bhavani Kumar Yellapragada is presently working as Project leader for LIDAR at National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL), ISRO in India. Dr Kumar has made significant contribution in the development of technologies related to laser remote sensing instrumentation for environmental research in India namely a boundary layer micro pulse lidar, Dual polarization lidar, Raman lidar and resonance lidar, which are capable of characterizing atmospheric boundary layer dynamics, aerosol particles, clouds, water vapor and mesospheric Sodium layer. Recently his works were recognized by ISRO and conferred with ISRO's prestigious Merit award. He published more than 75 publications Currently he is listed as expert under VIDWAN, an MHRD initiative of Government of India. He is an elected senior member of IEEE. He is also life member of ISRS, ASI add ISOI . He is a Fellow of Optical Society of India. He has guided more than 15 M.Tech Students in LIDAR remote sensing area and presently guiding two Ph.D students on LIDAR related research. He is presently working on measurement of winds using elastic back-scatter LIDAR technique and also working on single detector based polarization LIDAR.
