Alan Willner, committee cochair, on the Optics + Photonics report

It's up to the community to use the report's findings to raise awareness of the field, he says.
29 August 2012, SPIE Newsroom. DOI: 10.1117/2.3201208.03

Alan Willner is a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Southern California, and Associate Director for the Center for Photonics Technology at USC. He is a member of the Defense Science Research Council (a 16-member body that reports to the DARPA Director and Office Directors), has served on many scientific advisory boards for small companies, and has advised several venture capital firms.

Willner co-chaired the "Harnessing Light II" committee, which issued the report "Optics and Photonics: Essential Technologies for Our Nation" in August 2012. In this SPIE Newsroom/SPIE.TV video he talks about the report and what the photonics community can do to make it an effective tool for raising awareness of the discipline.
