Progress in solar technologies: a video interview with Thomas P. Feist

Tom Feist reviews progress in several different solar technologies, and assesses the prospects for development in the years ahead.

10 September 2007, SPIE Newsroom. DOI: 10.1117/2.3200709.0001

Dr. Thomas P. Feist is manager of the Thin Films Laboratory for GE Global Research in Niskayuna, NY.

Dr. Feist gves an overview of the global market dynamics and drivers in the renewable energy field   in this video interview. Photovoltaic technology has achieved an important role in real-world applications, although technical hurdles still exist.

Significant advancements are required in each component of the PV supply chain, including basic materials, cell and module technology, and system design, to enable widespread adoption.

Feist holds 16 patents and has authored numerous papers in materials science, solid-state chemistry, and data storage. He was a featured plenary speaker at the SPIE Optics + Photonics symposium, held in San Diego in August 2007.
