NREL's PV Incubator program

In this video interview, Martha Symko-Davies talks about NREL's incubator for high-impact technologies expected to advance solar energy
04 September 2009

National Renewable Energy Laboratory Senior Supervisor Martha Symko-Davies was interviewed for SPIE Newsroom at SPIE Optics + Photonics (August 2009) about NREL's Photovoltaic Technology Incubator Program.

The PV Incubator awards target research and development of PV systems and component prototypes with full functionality, produced in pilot-scale operations. The first incubator awards were announced in 2007, with subsequent solicitations occurring each year. See NREL's current solicitations page for up-to-date information.

The goals of the projects include exploring the commercial potential of new manufacturing processes and products; fostering innovation and growth in the domestic PV industry; establishing an efficient and cyclic funding opportunity; and expanding and diversifying domestic "market-ready" PV technologies.

Symko-Davies was the Symposium Chair for the Solar Energy + Technology track at SPIE Optics + Photonics. She was interviewed midweek at the event and discussed new technical developments with SPIE Newsroom managing editor Rich Donnelly:
