Brian Burridge: Beating the Battlespace Information Deficit: Agile Capability Driven by Enhanced Commercial Exploitation

An industry presentation from SPIE Remote Sensing.

17 October 2016

In this keynote presentation,  Sir Brian Burridge notes four major challenges that the defense, security, and sensing communities will soon need to face:

  • Operational: meeting the requirements for persistent observations
  • Science and technology: alleviating the burden placed on warfighters with high-resolution data
  • Commercial exploitation: encouraging the government and industry to work more cohesively
  • Sustainability Challenge: how to attract future generations into STEM fields.

He also notes the lack of women in STEM disciplines, the upcoming age crisis present in many academic fields, and the trend of top universities shifting away from the U.S., UK, and Europe. Despite these challenges, Burridge notes that we are in an era of opportunity.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Brian Burridge is Senior VP UK Corporate at Leonardo (formerly Finmeccanica) and chair of the UK's joint government-industry Defence Solutions Centre.
