Kyriacos Kalli Hot Topics Presentation: Next generation fibre sensors

Kyriacos KalliIn his presentation,"Next generation fibre sensors," Kyriacos Kalli describes applications such as the use of magnetic particles in flexible polymer fibers in esophageal sensors for next-generation fiber sensors.

Kalli's discussion presents the latest developments in fiber sensors with particular consideration to the versatility of optical fiber sensors; the development of embedded, advanced microstructure fiber-grating sensors in glasses and polymers; recent advances in infiltrated-microstructure fiber sensors using ferrofluids for magnetic-field measurements, surface-plasmon sensors for measuring low refractive indices required for biophotonics, and sensors tailored for measurements in harsh radiation environments.

Kalli also reviews the use of femtosecond lasers in developing vectorial fiber sensors and diffractive micro-optical elements for sensing and discusses the future of sensor development.

Kyriacos Kalli is an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering and Informatics at the Cyprus University of Technology (Cyprus).
