Francesco Baldini: Optical monitoring of biomarkers in the body

Real-time measurements of chemical markers provide valuable information for physicians.

Francesco Baldini is a senior scientists at the Insitute of Applied Physics "Nello Carrara" (Florence, Italy).

He graduated in physics from the University of Florence in 1986. He then joined the Optical Fiber Group at the Institute of Electromagnetic Waves of CNR in Florence (now the Institute of Applied Physics). His research activity was devoted to the development of optical fiber sensors and to the application of optical methods to the restoration of paintings and frescoes. Now he is active in the field of optical fiber sensors and systems for chemical and biochemical parameters.

Baldini is a Fellow of SPIE and for more than ten years he has served on program committees for SPIE conferences on Advanced Biomedical and Clinical Diagnostic and Surgical Guidance Systems, as well as Advanced Environmental, Chemical and Biological Sensing Technologies. He has also chaired the Optical Sensors conference at SPIE Optics + Optoelectronics.
