Video: Anita Mahadevan-Jansen on teaching and learning in biophotonics
Innovative imaging techniques as well as teaching methods have helped advance research at the biophotonics laboratory at Vanderbilt University.
Anita Mahadevan-Jansen is professor of Biomedical Engineering and Professor of Neurological Surgery in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN). She joined the faculty in the fall of 1998 after completing her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Her expertise is in the area of optical detection of clinical physiology and pathology with particular interest in applying optical techniques for cancer detection.
Mahadevan-Jansen is a leading expert on the use of laser spectroscopy to identify brain tumors. Her research also includes guidance of therapy and monitoring using fluorescence, reflectance and Raman spectroscopies as well as optical imaging. She and her husband, Dr. Duco Jansen (also a Professor in BME) lead the Biomedical Photonics initiative at Vanderbilt.
She was interviewed for SPIE Newsroom at SPIE Photonics West 2011, where she was also the featured speaker for the Women in Optics event.
