| SPECIM Announces the Launch of CaliGeoPRO Software for High Speed Pre-Processing of Hyperspectral Data 21 April 2011 SPECIM, Spectral Imaging, Ltd., the renowned manufacturer of AISA Airborne Hyperspectral Systems, announces the release of CaliGeoPRO, a software for AISA sensor data pre-processing. The software features high-speed tools for radiometric processing and georeferencing of hyperspectral remote sensing data. SPECIM CaliGeoPRO also adds several important functionalities to the basic CaliGeo software, including interface for guided, easy-to-use work flow through the data processing chain, visual diagnostics tools, automated batch processing for large data sets, and real-time preview of the final image while data-processing is still in progress.
SPECIM has upgraded its CaliGeo software to CaliGeoPRO to adapt to the market needs for high capacity pre-processing of hyperspectral data. This tool has been taken to the level where AISA data from a complete flight campaign can be pre-processed in just a few hours instead of several days. CaliGeoPRO produces basic georectification at least 15 times faster than the standard CaliGeo software, and georectification using Digital Terrain Model (DTM) can be completed up-to 50 times faster than previously.
“With the new CaliGeoPRO we are serving our most demanding customer segments by providing a high-speed pre-processing tool. They can now save time and money and concentrate in the actual production” states Petri Nygrén, Product Manager of the SPECIM AISA Airborne Hyperspectral Systems. “GaliGeoPRO is an important step towards real time data processing, our ultimate goal.”
CaliGeoPRO processing can be conducted either in an interactive mode or in automated batch processing for large data sets. Real time preview can be followed while data-processing is in progress, for both a single flight line and batch processing. With a clear user interface with step-by-step instructions to go through the data processing chain, CaliGeoPRO allows to review and validate data quality with the possibility to modify the processing parameters to achieve an optimal result.
CaliGeoPRO exploits efficiently resources of multiprocessor platforms and 64bit operating systems and runs smoothly on any regular office PC having 32bit or 64bit Windows operating system with ENVI 4.7 or newer.
CaliGeoPRO will be available in June 2011. |
| SPECIM Depicts Targets Invisible to the Human Eye - Next Gen Chemical Imager Reveals Camouflaged and Hidden objects 8 June 2011 SPECIM, Spectral Imaging, Ltd., announces that it has successfully delivered the world’s most compact, high-performance Long-Wave Infrared, LWIR Hyperspectral Imager to a Defence Customer in a strategic geographical location. The advanced chemical imaging capabilities will bring a new dimension to port and harbour airborne surveillance, and additionally to other defence and law enforcement applications. The strength of the technology is in unveiling hidden or camouflaged materials, objects and actions. The complete delivery encompasses a state-of-the art AisaOWL thermal infrared hyperspectral camera, related software solutions, and a service contract. The system delivery took place in May 2011.
Thermographic and Forward Looking Infrared, FLIR cameras have been used widely for defence and law enforcement solutions. Thermal imaging is the technology that enables the detection of warm objects against a cold background even in completely dark conditions. Thermal Infrared systems can see through smoke, fog, haze, and other atmospheric obscurants better than a visible light camera can.
The SPECIM AisaOWL operates similarly to a traditional thermographic camera, with the fundamental difference that each pixel additionally contains a full LWIR spectrum, unique to the molecular structure of the target. The measured infrared spectra can then be used for material identification of the objects depicted. Consequently, a single instrument can deliver reliable chemical and thermographic object recognition without the need for a light source such as the Sun or the Moon, which is a major advantage in target recognition, surveillance, and other defence applications.
The SPECIM AisaOWL provides invaluable information in airborne chemical imaging, including geological exploration, pollution source identification, and defence applications. The fact that US principal special forces the Navy SEALs have reportedly used hyperspectral imagers in such high stage operations as Neptune Spear, has proved the strategic importance of the technology, and raised world-wide interest towards the capabilities of thermal hyperspectral imaging in defence and law enforcement.
In February 2011, SPECIM’s AisaOWL was recognized by Frost & Sullivan as the World First Thermal Hyperspectral Camera for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles1. The sensor’s low weight and compact size is also one of the attractions of AisaOWL for the majority of SPECIM customers, as it allows for quick and easy installation in any aircraft, helicopter, or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles UAVs.

| SPECIM’s Revolutionary Hyperspectral Imaging Sensor Takes of Oulu, Finland April 1, 2010 - SPECIM, Spectral Imaging Ltd, the world’s leading manufacturer of hyperspectral imaging components and systems, responds to market demand and launches a new high resolution hyperspectral imaging sensor with exceptional performance and the dimensions required for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and other challenging applications.
The new V10M sensor operates in the VIS/NIR range of 380 – 1000 nm, and provides superior spectral and spatial imaging with negligible sub-pixel distortions (smile, keystone). The current sensor has an excellent spatial resolution of 1300 pixels, and a 2000 pixel version will be released later this year. The high resolution does not compromise the imaging speed, which reaches 100 images/s, and even higher rate with spectral binning. Superb optical light throughput, together with the most advanced and sensitive detector technology available, guarantees an excellent signal-to-noise ratio. The specifications meet the most demanding requirements for target detection with a wide swath width for efficiency in airborne uses, as well as provide superior performance in industrial quality control applications. The extreme performance from a light weight sensor of less than 0.9 kg (2 lb), including the spectrograph and camera, and in a format optimized to fit to small payload compartments and gimbals is the signature of the new M series sensors.
The sensor is based on the latest development in SPECIM’s market leading ImSpector series of imaging spectrographs, the ImSpector M series. This compact new technology is particularly designed to increase the spatial resolution of push-broom hyperspectral imagers, and works with detector arrays up to 24 mm wide in the spatial dimension. The design is optimized for operation in harsh conditions, and provides the option of a user exchangeable fore optic.
“Current hyperspectral imagers are either bulky with good performance, or compact, with only moderate performance. With the introduction of the new M Series, SPECIM overcomes these drawbacks, and offers clients in defense, security and industrial applications an off-the-shelf hyperspectral sensor that out performs all other sensors in the market. The M Series VIS/NIR sensor is the first step, which will be followed by the introduction of a high resolution SWIR sensor, as well a high performance, miniaturized cooled LWIR sensor in the near future. They will elevate the use of high performance hyperspectral imaging in the market place to new levels, while adding increasing value to our clients products. ” says Timo Hyvärinen, Managing Director of SPECIM.
For further information, SPECIM welcomes you to visit the booth No. 211 at SPIE Defense, Security+Sensing (DSS) exhibition in Orlando, FL, USA, 6-8 April, 2010, where the new M Series hyperspectral sensor will be displayed.
