Southwest Research Institute® (SwRI®) is an independent, nonprofit, applied research and development organization. More than 3,000 employees work in two million square feet of laboratories, workshops, and offices on 1,200 acres at the main facility at San Antonio, Texas. Engineers, scientists, analysts, and technologists perform contract research and development for government and industrial clients worldwide.
At SwRI, multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers work with industry and government to develop and bring to market advanced optics and photonics technologies. SwRI provides its customers with a broad range of experience and capabilities including spectroscopy, laser and electro-optic applications, flight-ready hardware development, FDA qualified device development, and test and evaluation services. Well-equipped laboratories contain state-of-the-art lasers, spectrometers, instrumentation, and specialized support equipment. The Institute holds a number of patents and other intellectual property related to optics and photonics technology. As part of a long-held tradition, patent rights arising from sponsored research at the Institute are often assigned to the client.
