Flexible Microwave Waveguides Available from Servometer
Cedar Grove, NJ

Flexible waveguides are available from Servometer, LLC to transmit signals of microwave and radar instrumentation. By using electroforming technology, waveguides are available with the perfect combination of all-metal construction, precise internal dimensions, and flexibility.

Electroforming is the process of machining an aluminum or stainless steel mandrel, plating the external surface with metal such as nickel, copper, gold, or silver, and chemically removing the original mandrel. Because the internal dimensions of the electroform are based on the external dimensions of the machining, waveguides can be manufactured with extremely tight tolerances. With the flexibility of a bellows, electroformed waveguides can be installed in confined areas rather easily. Assemblies are available in completely custom sizes from micro-miniature structures to over sixteen feet in length. Servometer waveguides are used in land-based equipment as well as satellite communication systems. Every waveguide is constructed to operate at cryogenic temperatures.

Value added services are available as well. Servometer can solder or weld end components for seamless integration into customer assemblies.

About Servometer

Since 1957, Servometer has pioneered the manufacture of electrodeposited miniature metal bellows, bellows assemblies, contact springs, flexible shaft couplings and structurally rigid electroforms. Servometer miniature bellows are used in a variety of critical applications where high reliability and long-term use are required. Servometer has supported customers with quality products and technical service for over 50 years. Their unique, patented electrodeposition process has led Servometer to become the leading supplier of miniature metal bellows manufactured by this method. In 2007, Servometer acquired BellowsTech, Inc. of Ormond Beach, Florida, creating BellowsTech, LLC, a premier manufacturer of metal edge welded bellows and assemblies, encompassing a wide array of alloys and dimensional configurations. The flexibility of material and size of metal welded bellows, as well as application expertise, have led BellowsTech into a diversity of industries including aerospace, medical, test, semiconductor, solar, and oil and gas.

Baffled Electroforms from Servometer®
Servometer® electroforms can be used in a myriad of high tech applications; as molds, cold shields, waveguides, and for precision tubing.

Baffled electroforms and other custom electroformed components requiring close inside tolerances, precision internal finished and thin walls, can be made to print by Servometer in nickel, copper, gold, silver, or any combination thereof. Diameters from 0.020 inch (.5 mm) to 9 inch (229 mm). Lengths up to 18 inches (45.7 cm)
can be readily produced, as can closed end tubes. Flexible components can also be manufactured by combining a formed unit with a flexible bellows section.

Nickel components can be furnished in weldable or solder grades to enable easy assembly. Most parts require no significant tooling. Therefore; several prototype variations can be evaluated, as opposed to being locked into a design by expensive dies or molds.

INNOVATIVE DESIGN SOLUTIONS “MAKING THE IMPOSSIBLE…POSSIBLE”
Servometer® / PMG, LLC designs and manufactures precision, electrodeposited nickel bellows, bellows assemblies, flexible shaft couplings, electrical contacts and lightweight, structurally rigid electroforms.

Servometer custom designed miniature nickel alloy metal bellows can be made as small as .020 inch (.5 mm) in diameter and still retain full sensitivity and flexibility. Seamless and non-porous no dust, dirt, or moisture can lodge in seams and cause contamination in critical applications. Servometer bellows are leak tight to 1 x 10-9 std. cc/sec., and can be designed for “infinite” life expectancy (100 x 106 cycles). They offer superb performance in applications such as metallic hermetic seals, volume compensators, pressure and temperature sensors, flexible connectors, and countless other applications where quality, reliability and long life are critical requirements.

Servometer zero-backlash, flexible shaft couplings meet rigorous needs in precision rotary positioning systems, where high flexibility, sensitivity and extreme accuracy in dimensional tolerances and concentricity are critical. Our stock line of bellows-type flexible shaft couplings have a torque range from 1.4 Ncm to 198 Ncm. Outside diameters range from .252 inch (6.4 mm) to 2.40 inch (61 mm) and overall lengths from .5 inch (12.7 mm) to 2.44 inch (62 mm). Larger sizes and greater torque capabilities are available on a custom basis.

Servometer self-aligning spring contacts meet critical solderless connection needs in miniature electronic applications, and feature negligible insertion and inductance loss. They are ideal for repetitive connect and disconnect. Outside diameters range from .037 inch (1 mm) to .245 inch (6.22 mm) and are available from stock. Custom contacts can be designed with bellows diameters as small as .020 inch (.5 mm).

Servometer lightweight, structurally rigid electroforms are the ideal solution for needs involving unusual shapes, close tolerances, high strength and ultra-thin walls, and can withstand extreme temperatures down to -423° F. Diameters range from .020 inch (.5 mm) to 9 inch (229 mm). Surface micro-finishes as fine as 4 R.M.S. are also available.

Our experienced design engineers are on staff and will work with you to create an innovative design solution that meets your requirements at a reasonable price.

Servometer Custom Electroforms
Servometer®/Precision Manufacturing Group, LLC has developed and patented a process to manufacture electroforms with integral baffles, for use in Electro-optic applications.

In the electrodeposition process, a mandrel, the negative shape of the desired part, is first machined in aluminum. Then the desired metal for the part is electrodeposited on the mandrel to the desired thickness. Finally, the aluminum mandrel is dissolved electrochemically, leaving the desired electroform. Every electroform starts with its own mandrel.

Custom electroforms and other custom electroformed components requiring close inside tolerances precision internal finish and thin walls, can now be made to print by Servometer in diameters as small as .010 inches (0.254 mm). Lengths up to 6 inches (76.2 mm) can be readily produced in nickel, copper, gold or silver, or a combination thereof. Servometer electroforms can be used as molds, cold shields, waveguides, for precision tubing, and light weight, structurally rigid components.

Nickel components can be furnished in weldable or solder grades to enable easy assembly. Most parts require no significant tooling, therefore several prototype variations can be evaluated, as opposed to being locked into a design by expensive dies or molds.

Paired Contacts - Flexible Interconnection
Servometer® / Precision Manufacturing Group, LLC presents the Interconnectric® line of paired miniature gold plated bellows contact springs for flexible interconnection. Interconnectric® contacts are available with diameters ranging from .037" OD (.94 mm) to .125" OD (3.175 mm). The unique pairing of a convex conical tipped contact with a concave conical receptacle tip contact allows them to self align as they connect, even if they are misaligned.

Servometer® contact springs are manufactured from electrodeposited nickel and gold plated to ASTM B-488-01 to enhance their conductivity, and provide extremely low DC resistance with a minimum of insertion loss. They are designed to provide lifetime spring and force repeatability.

These self-aligning contacts will minimize shock and vibration in dynamic applications will help overcome tolerance buildup and misalignment problems in critical assemblies and will give the designer a less expensive alternative to high cost, tight tolerance assembly components.
