PHOTONIS Announces New Lynx Low-Noise, Low-Light Digital CMOS Sensor
Lancaster, PA - PHOTONIS USA introduces Lynx, a new low-noise digital CMOS image sensor designed to perform well under daylight and low-light level conditions. The Lynx sensor can provide frame rates up to 100 frames per second (fps) at full resolution with 5e- read noise, making it ideal for night vision and surveillance applications where high-resolution detection across varying light conditions is critical.

Lynx is the first operational Night Vision and Homeland Security Digital Sensor based on full solid-state technology operating in both daylight and low-light level (equivalent to night level 3). This new sensor offers new perspectives in connecting night vision to Command and Control (C4I), in urban and suburban surveillance at night and in advanced applications such as vehicle protection/surveillance and fusion of digital images such as visible (at night) and infra-red (IR).

The new Lynx CMOS sensor provides an SXGA resolution (1280 x 1024 pixels) in a small 16mm (diagonal) chip. With a power consumption under 200mW, the Lynx is ideal for man-portable systems, unmanned remote posts and CCTV surveillance where 24/7 image availability is required. The new sensor is designed for simple integration into a variety of camera platforms by either manufacturers or OEMs.

PHOTONIS provides a wide range of night vision imaging technologies to armed forces across the globe, and is an innovator in the development of new low-light imaging technologies. Goossen Boers, CEO of PHOTONIS, commented, "The release of Lynx reinforces our continued commitment to the low light imaging as well as to our innovation and new product development."

The Lynx CMOS sensor is the latest in the PHOTONIS line of low-light imaging sensors and cameras. In 2011, PHOTONIS released digital scientific camera, the xSCELL, with its exclusive InXite™ sensor that offers read noise as low as 2e-, to support scientific imaging applications.

PHOTONIS is a multinational high-technology group, with more than 40 years experience in manufacture, sales and innovation, specializing in photo sensor technology. The Group operates internationally in the Night Vision, Industrial, Scientific and Medical Imaging markets. PHOTONIS USA designs and manufactures a wide range of custom and standard components and assemblies for mass spectroscopy as well as other medical, bio-medical and scientific instruments and holds several patents in these fields. PHOTONIS Releases 1000 fps Digital Scientific Camera with Low Light, High Resolution Imaging
PHOTONIS USA, a leading manufacturer of imaging components for scientific and medical technologies, announces the introduction of its new xSCELL Digital Scientific Camera. xSCELL is designed to address the unique combination of high-speed imaging, low light levels and low dark noise requirements, such as in fluorescence imaging, spinning disk confocal microscopy, high throughput screening and gene sequencing. The product will be showcased at the American Society for Cell Biology in Denver, CO, December 3-7, 2011.

The xSCELL Digital Scientific Camera is a unique high-performance scientific camera which features 1000 frames per second (fps) at a resolution of 1024 x 1024, while providing readout noise of less than 2 e- rms and quantum efficiency of 65%. xSCELL offers flexible readout modes, in-camera processing and true pixel binning as part of its standard package.

PHOTONIS’ Director of Imaging Products, Marc D. Neglia, commented, “At 1000 fps, the xSCELL camera provides a long awaited breakthrough in molecular biology. Researchers currently utilizing common super-resolution microscopy techniques, such as PALM and STORM, will now be able to spend much less time acquiring data and more time analyzing.”

The xSCELL camera is powered by InXite™ technology, a proprietary CMOS-based technology which brings greater speed and clarity to scientific imaging. InXite™ delivers data at a high dynamic range up to 14 bits, and is cooled internally to -30°C to render the effects of dark noise to negligible levels. InXite™ technology is available exclusively from PHOTONIS.

PHOTONIS is a multi-national high-technology group with more than 40 years experience in manufacture, sales, and innovation of specialized photo-sensor and electro-optic technologies. The PHOTONIS Group operates internationally in the Night Vision, Industrial, Scientific, Medical and Imaging markets. PHOTONIS USA designs and manufactures a wide range of custom and standardized components and assemblies for mass spectrometry as well as other medical, bio-medical and scientific instruments, and holds several patents in these fields.
