Company Description
OFS is a leading designer and manufacturer of optical fiber products. A wealth of application knowledge and proven innovation enables OFS to work in the fields of telecommunications, medical laser delivery, sensing and imaging, industrial data communications, geo-sensing, fiber laser components for micro and macro applications, LADAR, oceanography and more.
The Specialty Photonics Division (SPD) is one of the two divisions that comprise OFS Fitel, LLC. While its sister division develops and manufactures products for the telecommunications and datacom markets, SPD focuses on unique, telco and non-telco fiber optic applications. OFS is incorporated in the United States and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Furukawa Electric Company of Japan. Our lineage is a complex one, a company born of mergers and acquisitions, and goes all the way back to Alexander Graham Bell.
OFS Laboratories, the research and development arm of OFS Fitel LLC, is a world-class Center of Excellence for Optical Innovation. Its heritage of technical advances has helped define the course of optical communications over the span of more than a century.
SPD engineers the product, develops the preforms, and draws and cables the fiber, metalizes, polishes or custom-shapes the ends, manufactures and assembles modules and connectors, and provides testing and installation equipment and software. We are ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified.
