Press Releases
24 January 2011
Advanced level of microoptics system integration
During Photonics West 2011, Jenoptik’s Microoptics business unit will present demonstrators of microoptic technology for improving current and next generation products.

Semiconductor and Flat Panel Display-fabrication equipment is getting more and more sophisticated to meet the huge challenges of shrinking feature dimensions and larger wafer and panel size. This leads to a demand for custom specific microoptics with increased performance and extraordinary optical properties. Ultimately the microoptical components have to perform in conjunction with optics, electronics and mechanics.

There is a growing trend that Semiconductor and FPD-equipment manufacturers require a higher integration level in order to simplify the interfaces between their systems and the optical sub-systems with integrated microoptical functionality.

Therefore the Microoptics business unit strengthened it’s capabilities to follow this trend. As a result, a comprehensive portfolio of advanced system-integration methods and tools is available. Assemblies, interconnections, contacting and compounds of our custom specific microoptics with opto-electronical components, PCB’s and micro-machined parts can be realized. This is done using highly sophisticated technologies, e.g. gluing and optical contacting of 3 dimensional stacks and modules consisting of optical glasses, metals, electronics boards and semiconductors with flatness and placement accuracies down to sub-micron level.

These integration activities are performed in recently extended class 100 clean rooms with specifically designed alignment tools, such as a 6 axes robot. Moreover, Jenoptik developed processes for the fabrication of sub-micron optical structures on top of optoelectronic sensors or sensor arrays as well as for sub-micron structuring of membranes for microoptical systems working in the Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV).

JENOPTIK Optical Systems, Inc. formed through merger
MEMS Optical, Inc. (Huntsville, AL) and JENOPTIK Polymer Systems, Inc. (Rochester, NY) have merged with JENOPTIK Optical Systems, Inc. (Jupiter, FL) effective January 1, 2010. The merger creates a single corporation for the US based manufacturing operations of Jenoptik Optical Systems division.

Unique capabilities as a development and production partner

With the merger, JENOPTIK Optical Systems, Inc. has a unique breadth of manufacturing and design capabilities including optical lens assemblies, optical components, refractive and diffractive microoptics manufactured with wafer level techniques, and molded polymer optics. Customers include those requiring design & manufacture of prototype optical assemblies through high volume component manufacturing for applications ranging from UV through LWIR.

Three facilities, 125 employees

The company now includes 125 employees and 100,000 square feet of US optical manufacturing across 3 facilities. The unified entity will allow each location to realize the efficiencies of a larger organization, simplify marketing efforts, increase brand recognition and continue the technical excellence developed in each of the locations.

Primary markets are life science research, defense, semiconductor manufacturing, digital projection, optical metrology and astronomical research but in fact are any that require custom precision optics.

JENOPTIK Optical Systems, Inc. is a Florida corporation, is ITAR compliant and looks forward to continuing to serve our customers in all markets from all facilities.
JENOPTIK (Jena, Germany) acquired MEMS Optical 2006 and JENOPTIK Polymer Systems, Inc. was established in Rochester the same year. In July 2009, subsidiaries Coastal Optical Systems and Liebmann Optical Company merged to form JENOPTIK Optical Systems, Inc.
