The Jenoptik Lasers & Material Processing division will introduce its new high beam quality laser source within the kilowatt power range. It will be shown at the Photonics West trade fair, booth 1214, in the south hall of the Moscone Center, San Francisco, USA, from January 24 to 26, 2012.

Metal Processing with the Jenoptik Fiber Laser JenLas® fiber cw 1000

In order to extend its product range in the field of macro material processing, Jenoptik has developed the first product within the range of kilowatt fiber lasers – the laser source JenLas® fiber cw 1000. This highly brilliant single-mode high-power fiber laser system features high performance stability and a long life time of the laser source. Because of that constantly high productivity is achieved in the respective applications at a high processing speed. Compared to other laser sources such as the CO2 lasers, fiber lasers are more energy-efficient and thus more cost-effective.

The new system of Jenoptik is a cw laser with an output power of 1,000 Watts. “By offering the Jenoptik fiber lasers in conjunction with the added value depth of the Lasers & Material Processing division we are confident to provide our customers with optimal support for successful applications”, says Dr. Thomas Fehn, Executive Vice President of the Jenoptik Lasers & Material Processing division. “Jenoptiks’ know-how in the fields of diode lasers, the fiber laser pump sources, the laser sources and processing optics creates a unique environment for the generation of customer value. Our in-depth knowledge on all of those technological stages and the additional experience with the application enables our customers to flexibly integrate the Jenoptik fiber lasers into their respective systems. We provide our customers with additional support through our worldwide service network“, adds Thomas Fehn.

The fiber laser has been optimized for use in the laser processing systems for example for the industrial applications such as metal cutting and metal welding. The OEM laser source is offered in a compact 19 inch housing, including the corresponding operating software. Operational safety is ensured by a safety lock made of certified components. The laser comes with several user interfaces such as RS232, EtherCAT and USB port. In addition, a parallel customer-specific interface can be used.

The pump diodes needed for the production of the JenLas® fiber cw 1000 fiber laser system are procured internally from the manufacturing plant in Berlin, followed by further processing in Jena. In order to satisfy the increased customers’ demand and to respond to the market developments the plant in Berlin is currently being enlarged.

Jenoptik's diode lasers with high brilliance
Jenoptik Lasers & Material Processing division at Photonics West 2010: Presentation of innovations in diode lasers and laser systems

The Lasers & Material Processing division of Jenoptik will be from January 26-28, 2010 at the trade fair Photonics West in San Francisco, USA, at booth 1422. In addition to the proven standard products, innovations and further developments in semiconductor materials as well as diode and disk lasers will be presented

Diode lasers with high brilliance:

The Diode Lasers business unit will showcase its high-brightness fiber-coupled diode laser modules with 105 µm fiber core diameter and a numerical aperture of 0.15. They are based on the coupling of several single emitters and are characterized by a high level of robustness and the compact design of only 100 mm x 60 mm x 25 mm. Due to the passive cooling of the diode laser modules through to the base plate, the handling of the modules is very easy. Another benefit is an integrated filter that protects against back reflection from the fiber laser beam.

The main areas of application of the high-brightness modules are optical pumping of fiber lasers and direct material processing.

Jenoptik's new quality in solar cell processing
Jenoptik Lasers & Material Processing division at Photonics West 2010: Presentation of innovations in diode lasers and laser systems

The Lasers & Material Processing division of Jenoptik will be from January 26-28, 2010 at the trade fair Photonics West in San Francisco, USA, at booth 1422. In addition to the proven standard products, innovations and further developments in semiconductor materials as well as diode and disk lasers will be presented.

New quality in solar cell processing:

The Laser Systems Business Unit will showcase its JenLas® disk IR50 for solar cell processing.
The laser combines perfect beam quality in the infrared wavelength range at 1030 nm with a flexible tunable pulse length.
Consequently, the 45-watt system is ideal for the laser drilling of silicon wafers, which then allow the efficient production of back-contact solar cells. The electrical efficiency of the cells can be increased through the use of MWT or EWT (Metal Wrap Through und Emitter Wrap Through) technology. In order to increase the active surface area of the cells, in the case of both technologies the contacts are laid from the front to the rear side of the cell. The contact finger that are currently used as standard and covers parts of the active surface area can therefore be dispensed.

The company will also present a range of diode lasers, fiber lasers and diode-pumped-solid-state lasers for OEM and R&D customers for different applications.
Target applications in material processing are marking, deep engraving, ablating, structuring, cutting and drilling for electronics, semiconductor, automotive, photovoltaics and packaging markets. Life science lasers for ophthalmology and dermatology and lasers for show & entertainment will be exposed too.

Jenoptik adds another manufacturing level.
Lasers & Material Processing: Jenoptik adds another manufacturing level to the Diode Lasers Business Unit.

Through the acquisition of the Berlin enterprise Three-Five Epitaxial Services AG, Jenoptik has extended their expertise in the field of epitaxial wafer production. For the first time ever, the Diode Lasers Business Unit of Jenoptik’s Lasers & Material Processing division will present the complete technology chain for the production of diode lasers as well as new developments and the widening of the product range at Photonics West in the USA.

In December 2008 Jenoptik completed its purchase of the wafer manufacturer Three-Five Epitaxial Services AG (TESAG) and thereby has become one of the few full-range suppliers of high-power diode lasers worldwide. Thus Jenoptik provides customers and all of those interested with the whole range of the diode lasers from a single source starting from the wafer over to unmounted semiconductor material and mounted diode-laser bars up to high-quality modified products in the form of fiber-coupled diode lasers as well as stacks. The advantages for customers are clearly evident: short development times, maximum flexibility of selection and configuration as well as the highest quality available through the complete added-value chain of the Jenoptik brand.

At Photonics West 2009, which takes place from January 27-29, 2009 in San Jose, California, USA the Diode Lasers Business Unit will present together for the first time with TESAG their proven standard products as well as innovative new developments throughout the entire technology chain of diode lasers.

Newest developments of Jenoptik's Diode Lasers Business Unit
Expansion of the product range of high-efficiency diode-laser bars by additional standard wavelength 880 nm:

Based on this new semiconductor material, high-power diode lasers with a wavelength of 880 nm

(88x nm) are currently being produced and offered. This wavelength will be preferentially used in the production of passively-cooled diode lasers. Besides the previously available standard wavelengths 808, 915, 938, 976 and new 880 nm, the special wavelengths 792, 830 and 1060 nm are also available on request.

New fiber-coupled diode laser relies on forced air cooling:

The new fiber-coupled diode laser JOLD-100-CPXF-2P A is an advancement of the previously available diode-laser module, which is now being offered for the first time with the option of forced air cooling with a power of 100 W from a 400 µm fiber (NA 0.22). The huge advantage here is obvious: Cooling can be achieved completely without water or even a TEC (thermoelectric cooler), thus simplifying the handling for the user.

Alternatively, the same new fiber-coupled module will also be introduced with a higher output power and brilliance. Now with improved technology, an optical output power of 140 W from a 400 µm fiber-core diameter (NA 0.22) by means of passive cooling using industrial water is possible.

The new diode-laser module can be used in direct material processing (quasi-simultaneous welding and other applications with increased power demand) or when pumping solid-state and fiber lasers. The beginning of series production is planned for the second quarter of 2009.
