Gould Fiber Optics: Announces, a First in the Industry, the Fiber Optic Component Line of Damp Heat and Harsh Environment Resistant Polarization Maintaining (PM) Couplers
Millersville, MD, USA– March 2012
Gould Fiber Optics, a leading worldwide manufacturer and supplier of premium passive fiber optic, planar components and integrated modules, is pleased to announce, a first in the industry, the introduction of its product line of Damp-Heat and Harsh Environment Resistant PM Couplers. Built on Gould’s advanced high reliability fused tapered process and proprietary packaging platforms the PM couplers are capable of withstanding more than 2000 hours of Damp-Heat of 85°C & 85% Relative Humidity environment.

Our research team, under the direction of Gould Technology General Manager Dr. Saeed Pilevar, has dedicated many hours in the development and testing of this product. Real Time monitoring of test results exhibited minimal changes in optical parameters such as polarization extinction ratio (PER), insertion loss, excess loss, coupling ratio, etc. Gould’s unique manufacturing process offers a high PER >20dB for both axis as well as ultra low PDL, low excess loss and low back reflection on a very small foot print. The product’s proven longevity is the perfect solution for reliability applications such as submarine, fiber gyroscopes, undersea transmission systems, aerospace and outer space, high power fiber laser systems, and fiber amplifiers.

“Gould engineers, technicians and other support staff are always looking for solutions for our customers. This new generation of fused product is designed and built with a very advanced fabrication and packaging techniques meeting the industry high standards,” Gould Technology General Manager Dr. Saeed Pilevar stated. “This further enhances our advantages in capacity, reliability, performance, and flexibility.”
