Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research
Company Description
As a materials research institute, Fraunhofer ISC opens up the potential of innovative materials for the products of tomorrow, focusing in particular on efficient and safe energy use, sustainable utilization of resources, and affordable, personalized health care. The Institute’s customers are major industrial companies and small and medium-sized enterprises. Among the services rendered by the Institute is not only the development of new materials, but also the development of entire technologies and the design of manufacturing processes tailored to specific production environments. Where required, Fraunhofer ISC also develops functional models and demonstrators and optimize manufacturing processes using advanced test and measurement techniques that closely simulate real-life conditions.
Fraunhofer ISC’s Optics & Electronics Unit performs contractual R&D for industrial partners with major focus on the development of custom-designed hybrid polymers (e.g. ORMOCER®s) and processes for optical, electro-/optical, micro and polymer electronic applications and packaging as well as for micromedicine applications. The materials for optics feature low absorption losses, widely adjustable refractive indices, and the process capability by a large variety of different technologies and combinations thereof. Beside lithography, replication/NIL, and printing, 3D processes are used to fabricate optical structures and elements.
