| Release of a new double tilt mechanism DTT 35 XS by Cedrat Technologies A new double tilt mechanism so called DTT 35 XS has been developed by CEDRAT TECHNOLOGIES with the CNES support considering different space applications. A first application of this mechanism was found in the frame of PHARAO (the first space cold atomic clock, to be operated on board of the ISS) but other applications can be found, such SILEX inter-link satellite communication. This mechanism is based on two pairs of APA35XS, Amplified Piezo Actuators displaying 35 ěm of stroke each, arranged in cross configuration. The mechanism allows both a deflection of +/- 2 mrad around the X and Y axis and a vertical displacement of 35 ěm in the Z direction. In order to achieve the two qx and qy deflections, each pair of APA35XS is electrically driven in push pull configuration, so the device only requires two output channels from the standard driving electronics LA75A-2 of CEDRAT TECHNOLOGIES. In the context of the PHARAO space mission, a set of 10 mechanisms will be integrated by EADS-SODERN for the stability control of the “optical molasses” near to the outlet of the Cesium atomic fountain. The DTT35XS will perform this control by changing the angle of incidence of a laser beam in front of an optical fibre. This new 3 dof piezo mechanism presents a high bandwidth (higher than 1 kHz) which can be useful for precise and fast optical applications such like optical switches, laser cavity tuning and spectrometry. | Stepping Piezo Stage SPS by Cedrat Technologies The Linear Stepping Piezo Stage LSPS35XS is based on the Stepping Piezo Actuator’s (SPA) principle. It provides both a long stroke and a micro/nano positioning resolution. A linear guiding ensures excellent flat and straight motion. The guiding also protects the system against external forces, torques and vibrations. A positioning sensor can be included for operation in closed loop. The piezo stage can be driven by a SPC45 controller or by a linear amplifier from the LA75 family. The stage can perform more than 106 cycles. Linear Stepping Piezo Stages can be used in micro positioning, scanning and refocussing applications. Customized Stepping Piezo Stages including Rotary Stepping piezo stages can be designed according to customer’s requirements For more information please visit our website www.cedrat-technologies.com or contact us at actuator@cedrat.com |

| Compact, dynamic & precise” piezo solutions CEDRAT TECHNOLOGIES has developed a range of reliable piezoelectric products for high bandwidth & precise motion: APATM and PPA actuators as well as various precision mechanisms with driving and control electronics. They are based on the expansion of the active material and on a mechanism for amplifying the displacement. APATM offer high displacements combined with large forces and compact size along the active axis.
The Parallel Prestress Actuators perform short strokes (0-200micron) and high forces (0-10kN). These actuators are based on an external frame to prestress the piezo Ceramics and to provide metal interfaces. Special hollow versions, called HPPA have been developed for laser cavity tuning in Lidars.
The Amplified Piezo Actuators perform medium strokes (0-1mm) and high forces (0-10kN). These actuators are based on a shell to prestress the piezo ceramics, to amplify the piezoceramic stroke and to provide metal interfaces. The shell also protects the piezo ceramic and renders the actuator insensitive to off-axis forces. Thanks to the amplification, the actuator axial deformation can reach almost 10%. For example the APA 900M can provide a stroke of 800µm in a height of only 10mm. Efficiency of the amplification has been optimised to keep useful force and stiffness.
These mechatronic products are used for various applications including micro nano positioning, micro scanning, laser cavity tuning, optic fibber stretching, vibration generation, vibration control (active damping, isolation), fast machining, mirror tilting, flap control, fluid control (metering valve, injection).
Various mechanisms have been (or can be) developed using these APATM and PPA components: X, XY and XYZ stages are APATM - based X, XY and XYZ mechanisms offering guided motion of 20 to 400 microns. X and XY stages are thermally compensated. They can be controlled by strain gages or by Eddy Current Sensors for close loop operations. The OPDA is a special X stage developed for Oerlikon Contraves for LISA space mission. TT and DTT mechanisms are APATM - based single or double tilt mechanisms of up to 10 mrad rotations, which can be combined with XY and XYZ stages.
OPP is an Objective Piezo Positionner for refocusing functions in optic microscopes The guided z-stroke is 140micron.
FPS are Fast Piezo Shutters, the opening slot of which is up to 400micron They are used for switching laser beams and for X-ray beams.
SPA are new linear Stepping Piezo Motors for stroke up to 20mm with blocking at rest, benefiting of the APATM heritage. They can perform this long stroke by accumulation of small controllable steps.
Using additional fine mode, they also offer a positioning capabilities of less than 1 nm along the 20mm stroke. This new technology receives a MICRONORA2008 Golden Micron Award. Although all APATM can be used to realise SPA motors, the trend is to expand the range of products toward micro motors. |
| Evaluation Pack: APA120S and CAμ10 amplifier CEDRAT TECHNOLOGIES has developed several classes of low-voltage Piezo Actuators to cover a wide range of needs and application.
