First commercial high pulse energy DPSS picosecond laser
EKSPLA is introducing the first commercial DPSS mode-locked picosecond laser with more than 25 mJ pulse energy at 30 ps pulse duration and 50 Hz pulse repetition rate. The PL2231 laser has been designed primarily for applications that require stable laser pulses, including laser spectroscopy, OPG pumping, remote laser sensing, and satellite ranging.

All pulse generation and amplification stages use only diode pumping (no flashlamps). Full DPSS pumping ensures excellent pulse-to-pulse stability and more than 3 years maintenance-free operation of pumping heads (at an estimated 8 operation hours per day).

Pulse-to-pulse energy stability holds at less than 0.5% rms at 1064 nm for 2.5 -25 mJ output energy range. The required pulse energy can be set and subsequently fine tuned in approximately 0.25 mJ steps from a remote control pad or personal computer. Second (532 nm), third (355 nm), and fourth (266 nm) harmonics generators are available as standard options.

The laser provides precise triggering pulses for synchronization of customer's equipment. Installation of a PRETRIG option enables the lead of the triggering pulse to be set at up to 1000 µs with jitter remaining below 10 ps rms.

For customer convenience the laser can be controlled through a user-friendly remote control pad or USB interface. The remote control pad allows easy control of all parameters and features a back-lit display that is easy to read even with laser safety goggles. Alternatively, the laser can be controlled from a personal computer with supplied software for a Windows operating system. LabView drivers are supplied as well.
