SPIE regrets to inform you that while we received a number of fine submissions, we unfortunately didn't reach our minimum number to ensure a thorough peer-review process. The conference is thereby cancelled.
Holding technical conferences online is a new idea - perhaps too new to generate submissions matching that of traditional conferences. As scientists and engineers in fields that aim to reduce man's impact on the planet, you are well aware of the environmental advantages of reducing travel. As conference organizers, SPIE believes that it is a civic responsibility to seek more environmentally friendly means of disseminating the latest scientific information and will continue to investigate online possibilities. For now, the medium is young, and the conference’s slot in the calendar just after SPIE Optics and Photonics has also likely played a part in dampening submissions.
