OPTO 2017 Best Paper Awards

Best Student Paper Award
Ultrafast Phenomena and Nanophotonics XXI (Conf. 10102)

For Conference 10102: A generous sponsorship of Spectra Physics allows us to award one or two presentations with a Best Student Paper Award. All contributed papers of  conference 10102 given by a young scientist (PhD student or postdoc within the first two years after graduation) are eligible for the award. Note that this award is for contributed papers only. Invited papers and contributions to other symposia do not qualify. To facilitate handing out the award during the meeting, applications will be collected prior to the meeting. To be considered for the award, applicants have to submit the slides of their presentation (Powerpoint or PDF document). It would be helpful to provide additional information about the scientific content of the presentation. Such information can comprise published or accepted papers related to the presented work or the proceedings article for the conference. Please also indicate the date of graduation if you have already completed your PhD. The deadline for applications is Friday 6 January 2017. The presentation and the supplementary material should be sent via email to the conference chair Markus Betz at markus.betz@tu-dortmund.de (please include your SPIE paper number).

Best Student Paper Award
Terahertz, RF, Millimeter, and Sub-Millimeter-Wave Technology and Applications X (Conf. 10103)

For Conference 10103: A generous sponsorship of HÜBNER GmbH & Co. KG allows us to award one or two presentations with a Best Student Paper Award. All papers of  conference 10103 written and presented by a student (BS, MS, PhD) qualify for this award. To facilitate handing out the award during the meeting, applications will be collected prior to the meeting. To be considered for this prestigious award, applicants must submit the slides of their presentation (Powerpoint or PDF document), and full-length technical manuscript (6-pages minimum). Please also indicate your education level and expected date of graduation. The deadline for applications is Friday 6 January 2017. The presentation and full-length manuscript should be sent via email to the conference chair Larry Sadwick at sadwick@innosystech.com (please include your SPIE paper number).

Late-Breaking Results and Awards for Breakthroughs in Human-Centered Research
Quantum Sensing and Nano Electronics and Photonics XIV (Conf. 10111)

For Conference 10111: SPIE announces the continuation of the Awards for Breakthroughs in Human-Centered Research. The awards will recognize the scientific contributions of the best student(s) who present the most notable recent discoveries with broad impact to benefit our understanding of the human body, its diagnosis, or its medical treatment, in the fields of biosensing, spectroscopy, nanomedicine, and related fields. Accepted presentations will be given at the Late-Breaking Results session on Tuesday 31 January 2017 from 7:30-9:00pm and the winner(s) will be announced at the end of the session and awarded a commemorative plaque as well as a cash prize. Submission Deadline for participation in this session is 2 December 2016. To apply for participation, send a presentation title and 2-page technical abstract to Matthew Novak at mattn@spie.org.

Advanced Fabrication Technologies for Micro/Nano Optics and Photonics (Conf. 10115)

We are pleased to announce that a cash prize, sponsored by Nanoscribe GmbH, will be awarded to the best paper and best student paper in this conference. Qualifying papers will be evaluated by the awards committee. Manuscripts will be judged based on scientific merit, impact, and clarity. The winners will be announced during the conference and the presenting authors will be awarded a cash prize.

To be eligible for the Best Paper Award, you must:

  • be listed as an author on an accepted paper within this conference
  • have conducted the majority of the work to be presented
  • submit your manuscript online by 5 January 2017
  • present your paper as scheduled.
  • To be eligible for the Best Student Paper Award, you must:
  • be a student without a doctoral degree (undergraduate, graduate, or PhD student)
  • submit your abstract online, and select "Yes" when asked if you are a full-time student, and select yourself as the speaker
  • be the presenting author on an accepted paper within this conference
  • have conducted the majority of the work to be presented
  • submit your manuscript online by 5 January 2017
  • present your paper as scheduled.
