The SPIE Ocean Sensing and Monitoring Best Paper Award for excellence in research and presentation was presented yesterday at the 2018 SPIE DCS Ocean Sensing and Monitoring Conference. The winner and honorable mentions were presented by conference chairs Weilin "Will" Hou and Robert "Bob" Arnone. The award is sponsored by Xylem Inc. The winner and honorable mentions are the following.

 - Winner: David W. Illig for "Image processing technique for an underwater modulated pulse laser imaging system"

 - Brooke Jones for "Anomalous marine biophysical conditions due to 2016 and 2017 wind and flooding events in the Northeastern Gulf of Mexico"
