Longtime SPIE author Zeev Zalevsky of Bar-Ilan University has won the 2008 ICO Prize, and SPIE Member and former SPIE Thailand Chapter officer Joewono Widjaja of Suranaree University of Technology has won the ICO Galileo Galilei medal.
Zalevsky was recognized for achievements in the field of optical superresolution. The ICO Prize is awarded to an individual who has made a noteworthy contribution to optics and published or submitted for publication before he or she has reached the age of 40.
Zalevsky has published more than 70 papers in SPIE's Optical Engineering journal and the Proceedings of SPIE. He will present papers at SPIE Photonics West and at IS&T/SPIE Electronic Imaging in January 2009.
Widjaja was honored for achievements in wavelet-transform-based signal processing and related fields. The Galileo Galilei medal is awarded for outstanding contributions to the field of optics and photonics achieved under comparatively unfavorable economic, social, or technical/scientific circumstances.
Widjaja was vice president of the SPIE Thailand Chapter in 2004-2007. He has served on the program committeee for SPIE Photonics Asia in recent years and has presented several papers at SPIE conferences.
